TRAINING SUNDAYS!!!!
Today members of the West Milford Fire Department gathered to participate in our annual Ice Rescue refresher. This classroom session provided many different tactics and various ways for firefighters to safely and efficiently rescue victims (both human and animals) when falling through the ice.
Members went over the equipment, hand signals, proper rescuer PPE and rigging, communication and effects that the cold water temperatures have on the human body. This training is leading up to a hands on drill where members will participate in victim rescue from both on land operations as well as in “The Hot Zone”. Great training day along with great information!
Assistant Chief 4, Engine 1 and Rescue 4 are currently standing by covering the town of West Paterson while their Holiday parade is taking place!
Today, our members went to a Class A fire at Bergenfield Training Center along with Macopin Co.4, UGL Co.5 and Bloomingdale FD. This training center uses pallets and hay to simulate house fire conditions compared to other training centers that use propane and sensors. Here we are able to run scenarios in real life conditions while also sharpening our search, hose advancement, and comminucation skills. This gives us the opportunity to work with other companies, utilizing a ladder truck that we don’t often see on our side of town as well. Overall a beautiful day for training.
Sunday October 27,2024
Yesterday, members of the West Milford Fire Department attended an annual Burn Building training at Passaic County Fire Academy.
Members began the day with a rolling response scenario of a structure fire with multiple victims trapped. The members initiated the Incident Command System, forced entry into the building using a training door, searched and rescued victims, rescued trapped victims on the second floor utilizing ground ladders and extinguished multiple fires. This initial rolling response scenario required members to carry out various skills to complete the task at hand. The scenario concluded with a group critique.
The rest of the day was spent working on search tactics, forcible entry tactics, radio communications, decision making for our younger officers, fire suppression tactics and stand pipe tactics. Over all was an excellent day of training! Thank you to the Passaic County Fire Academy and the instructors!!
